The painting entitled Entrance to Beaufront Castle by John Carmichael. The painting shows Beaufront Castle near Hexham, designed by the Newcastle architect John Dobson in a style adapted from medieval buildings. It was built from 1837 to 1841 for William Cuthbert. Cuthbert was a partner in the chemical and glass works on Tyneside owned by James and Isaac Cookson. John Wilson Carmichael used architectural drawings of the house supplied by his friend John Dobson. The use of framing trees on either side of the house was a traditional feature of landscape composition. Buy this as a framed art print, canvas art print or art poster.
