A painting entitled Grey Horse Inn, Newcastle; by George Balmer, shows a busy crowd of ships drawn up in front of the medieval buildings of the Quayside in Newcastle in the 1830s. Wealthy merchants originally lived on the Quayside. The Grey Horse Inn and a large area around were later destroyed in the terrible fire of 6th October 1854.
