View of Newcastle upon Tyne, taken from a windmill to the eastward of St Ann's
Image Ref: TW05_3459

This early view shows a horse-drawn coal wagon coming down to the River Tyne, coal keels (barges) and sea-going coal ships on the river, and a coal wagon-way running down to a huge store and loading staith on the Gateshead bank. Ships are being built in yards on both the Newcastle and Gateshead banks. Empty keels and small coble boats can be seen in the foreground. The tower used to manufacture lead shot is visible beyond the old Tyne Bridge. William Daniell was a London painter of landscape views.
