Lindisfarne Priory

The ruined Priory at Lindisfarne (Holy Island), off the Northumberland coast, was a popular subject for artists in the 19th century. Golden sunshine casts a romantic glow over the ruins in this colourful view. At the time this picture was painted, Thomas Miles Richardson, Senior had been established for some time as the leading landscape painter and teacher in the Newcastle area.
