Oil painting entitled Caravans, Figures and Helter Skelter by Byron Eric Dawson; drawn in 1930. This painting almost certainly shows the Hoppings fair on the Town Moor, Newcastle. It includes showmen's old-style caravans, with tents for the fairground attractions. The rather chalky-looking colours of the picture were popular in the 1930s. Eric Byron Dawson specialised in street scenes and landscapes in the area around Newcastle and Durham. He also spent several years as a newspaper illustrator for The Northern Mail and later The Journal. Buy this as a framed art print, canvas art print or art poster.
