A sculpture of Chryseis - a beautiful young woman whose father was a priest of the temple of Apollo in Thebes. Chryseis story was told in the Illiad by the ancient Greek writer Homer. Chryseis is shown reclining despairingly after being seized by the Greek king Agamemnon after the Greek army sacked Thebes. The diagonal line of her body is balanced by vertical folds of drapery.
