The painting of Sunderland Races which had restarted in 1835 after a gap of nearly a century. A local sportsman, George Skipsey, had offered the use of part of his estate at Tunstall Hope, where the hillside provided a natural grandstand. The flags flying from the tents shielding the viewers on the hill add to the colour of this panoramic scene. Unfortunately, the races failed again after Skipseys death. The painter is unknown, but may be a local artist. Buy this as a framed art print, canvas art print or art poster.
