St Marys Church is in the centre foreground. Industrial development on the Gateshead bank of the river is visible on the right. The medieval-based old Tyne Bridge was still in place). The High Level Bridge (opened 1849) is on the left. John Storey was a Newcastle artist who specialised in views of buildings and streets.
