The portrait painting entitled Souvenir of Scutari by Edward Armitage. It is one of several pictures painted by Edward Armitage as the result of his travels to Scutari, Turkey during the Crimean war of 1853 to 1856. In the picture, a black servant woman shields the young woman on the right from prying eyes. Armitage probably purchased authentic clothing in Scutari, but painted the figures from models in England.
