The sculpture shows the entwined pose of two figures creating varied surfaces that reflect light. Plump curves on the baby contrast with the more angular forms of the mother's body. Alfred Drury aimed to carry the freshness of his original clay models into his finished sculptures. Rough modelling of the rock in this sculpture adds to the liveliness of the piece. This is one of the best known of Alfred Drury's small decorative bronze sculptures. Several identical casts were produced. He was a successful London sculptor. A superb print of this Sculpture is available as an unframed print, mounted box canvas print or framed print.
