A sculpture by Waldo Story may represent a guardian angel (considered to be female at this time). In late-Victorian art, nude young women often represented the ideal qualities of love and beauty. Waldo Storys original version of this subject was such a success that he made this sculpture two years later, in 1889. Its style is based on sculpture by Antonio Canova, whose work was influenced by classical Roman sculpture. Story was an American artist who showed most of his work in Britain. A superb print of this Sculpture is available as an unframed print, mounted box canvas print or framed print.
